Champions League Finale

I was never a fan of soccer. For me it was always just a boring game where 22 guys run after a ball and I never understood why people can be so obsessed with it.
But in the past few months my boyfriend made me watch it. At first I wasn´t very excited about it and it was so annoying when he was watching it but with time I realized that it´s not so bad.

For the Germans this years finale was very important and they call it the finale of the decade. For the first time two German teams were in the finale of the Champions League, Bayern München and Borussia Dortmund.
And I do have to admit that it was a good game. I was routing for Bayern because it is the only team I know well and they won 2:1 :)

I am glad that the season is over for now but I think I will be watching it more freaquently now.

X-Plain

For optional homework we had to go through a tutorial on this website http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/tutorials/ and write a short summary of the topic we picked out. I went through a few tutorials and I find this website very  helpful.
For the summary I chose a topic that is very important for all young women - breast cancer. It is the most common form of cancer . 1 out of 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Every women should get a check-up at least once.
Cancer is a tumor that can destroy other healthy cells and can sometimes be life threatening. It is not necessary that you inherit the cancer it can be caused by drugs, tobacco or chemicals.
You can check for signs of breast cancer by yourself and if you feel a lump or your skin is wrinkled it is recommended that you go and see a doctor.
If a women has breast cancer, first she has to have a surgery where the tumor is removed and then there are some additional therapies after the surgery like radiation, hormonal therapy and chemotherapy.

I think you can definitely spare a few minutes of your time and maybe once a month check for lumps or wrinkled skin, it is only to your advantage, because if you do discover something it is easier to treat it if you caught it in an early stage.

Welcome to Graz

Coming to Graz was not an easy decision. I always dreamt about living and studying in another country because I wanted to experience the real student live. But the thought of living alone, paying my own bills and earn money was a little bit scary. that is why I decided to come to Graz- I am on my own but still close to my family. I was really lucky that I found such good friends in such a short time here because they really made my life easier.

I have been living in Graz for 7 months now and it doesn´t feel like home just yet. Maybe it´s because I didn´t take the time yet to really explore the city or it´s the fact that I go to Maribor every weekend to visit my family. But I think with time I will adjust just fine in this beautiful city.

Slovenia

So I already told you something about me and now I would like to tell you something about my home country Slovenia. Many people have never even heard of it because it is such a small country, nevertheless it has so many rich characteristics which make Slovenia one of the most beautiful countries.
Even though Slovenia is small there are a lot of things we can be proud of. We have a coastline, mountains, caves and many other landmarks. We can also be proud of the world’s oldest human fish and grape wine.
Slovenia also offers a lot of attractions, but there are too many so I will just describe my favorites.
1.    1. FESTIVAL  LENT
If you are visiting Slovenia in June you cannot miss Slovenia’s biggest festival in my home town Maribor. It lasts for two weeks and every year not only regional artist perform but also international. It offers a variety of shows, from theatre, dance shows and folklore to workshops for children. The main attraction of the entire festival is probably the firework at the beginning and at the end of the festival. It is the place where people go not only to enjoy the shows but also to get together with friends over a drink or food from one of many different restaurants.

2.  2.   POSTOJNA CAVE
As I mentioned before there are a lot of caves in Slovenia, but probably the most famous one is the Postojna cave. Through the whole cave system rails are laid and you can take a tour in different languages. It is also the home of the world’s oldest human fish which is also the main attraction.
3.  3.   LIPICA
Lipica is a village in Slovenia and it is most famous for the Lipicanes horses. It is a stud farm and breeds the finest riding horses. The name Lipica comes from the tree Lipa (Linden tree), which is very common in that area and also a national symbol of Slovenia. Every year the Lipica Open takes place which is a orienteering competition.
These are just a few of many beautiful attractions Slovenia has to offer. Of course there are many more and if you decide to visit Slovenia you can visit many of them in just a few days and you get to try the excellent Slovenian cuisine.

HI, nice to meet you !

Hi everyone ! :) so a new semester started and I decided to write something about me for those who don´t know me .

My name is Patricija Valentan , I am 19 years old and I come from Maribor, Slovenia. I always knew that I wanted to study in another country and I chose Austria because the University is very good and because it´s near home. I grew up bilingual ( Slovene, German ), so for me it was always clear that I wanted to study languages, that´s why I chose transcultural communication.

What else is there to know about me ? Well nothing much, I think I am just a normal teenage girl who watches way to much TV series. I also like to read, listen to music, shop and hang out with my friends. Because all of my best friends are in Maribor I really enjoy the time when I visit and we just go for a coffee and talk for hours.

A really big passion of mine is travel. I love going to other countries and learn about their culture and language. And I really hope that when I am older I will be able to travel all around the world :)

I guess that´s about everything you need to know about me :)
